The nation is in grief as former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee breathed his last on August 16. The BJP patriarch, who was admitted to AIIMS on Monday, June 11, following complaints related to respiratory and kidney ailments, passed away at 5:05 pm as per a medical bulletin released by AIIMS. Ever since Atal Bihari Vajpayee's sad demise, condolences have been pouring in for the former Prime Minister. Like many other Bollywood celebrities, actress Priyanka Chopra took to Twitter to pay homage to the respected politician.

Priyanka tweeted, "Former Prime Minister Shri #AtalBihariVajpayee's visionary ideas and contributions for India were truly remarkable. The nation will always remember... #RIP My thoughts and condolences to the family."


Superstar Rajinikanth said, "I’m saddened to hear the demise of a great statesman Shri.Vajpayee ji. May his soul Rest In Peace." Shah Rukh Khan took to Twitter to pay a heartfelt tribute to Vajpayee saying, "For The Poet Prime Minister of our country, love you Baapji." Shah Rukh said, "My father use to take me to every speech that Mr. Vajpayee made in Delhi when I was growing up. Years on I had the opportunity to meet him and spend lots of time discussing poetry, films, politics and our ailing knees. I consider myself the luckiest to have had his influence on my life during my formative years.", he concluded. Shah Rukh Khan, in his post also shared a poem by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Other celebrities like SS Rajamouli, Rana Daggubati, Farhan Akhtar, Sanjay Dutt, Shilpa Shetty, among others took to Twitter to pay a tribute to the former Indian Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, the bulletin issued by AIIMS stated that Atal Bihari Vajpayee had been stable under the care of the team of AIIMS doctors, but his condition deteriorated over the last 36 hours, requiring him to be placed on life-support systems.  The former PM had assumed his first cabinet role as the Minister of External Affairs way back in 1977 in the Morarji Desai-led government. He received The Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian honour, in 2015. A number of schemes namely the Atal Pension Yojana as well as the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation have been named after him.
