Priyanka Chopra’s path to being the most followed Indian on Instagram

The brand of Priyanka Chopra Jonas has grown to heights that other Indian celebrities can only dream of. The Miss World of the year 2000 is currently the most followed Indian on Instagram with more than 44 million people following her. Although her roots lie in Bollywood, Priyanka has immensely magnified her global relevance through her art. She was a part of Forbes' World's 100 Most Powerful Women in 2018 as well as 2017.

Multi-lingual & Multi-talented

One of India's highest-paid celebrities, Priyanka started in the year 2000 when she was crowned Miss World. She later entered Bollywood with roles in movies like Andaaz, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, and Aitraaz. Over the next decade, she starred in popular films like - Krrish, Don, Fashion, Dostana, and Bajirao Mastani. Priyanka remained a relevant figure in India through the decade but her entry into American pop culture turned her relevance global.

In 2012, Priyanka's debut single 'In My City' came out and it featured 'will.i.am' of 'The Black Eyed Peas. The single did immensely well in India but not so much in the United States. Her next single 'Exotic' came out in 2013, featuring rapper Pitbull, this song was very well received and so was reflected when it debuted on the Billboard dance charts at Number 16. She released another single 'I Can't Make You Love Me' in 2014.

In 2015, Priyanka became the first Indian to headline an American TV show as she played Alex Parrish in ABC's Quantico. The show ran for three seasons with Priyanka being its protagonist. This massively added to Priyanka's Global Popularity. In 2017, she played a part in Baywatch which starred Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron. Although the movie was not received too well in the US, it was successful outside it. Chopra's role gained mostly favourable reviews. These roles got the ball rolling in Priyanka's Hollywood career as her presence became a more common occurrence at Hollywood red carpets.

In 2018, reports emerged of Priyanka Chopra dating Nick Jonas (of 'The Jonas Brothers') as the two were often spotted by the paparazzi together. The couple later got engaged and married in Jodhpur at the end of 2018. Nick Jonas, a former Disney Channel star, already had a very devout fan following because of the band he was in with his brothers. That fandom took very well to Priyanka as she became a part of 'The Jonas Sisters' club which includes the wives of the three Jonas Brothers with fans being obsessed with literally anything that the family does. Priyanka has also done a lot of philanthropic work through her own organization and actively works with the UN. She was even appointed as the 'Global UNICEF Ambassador of Goodwill' in 2016.
