Rahul Bose recently posted a tweet on social media shockingly stating that he had been charged Rs 400 for two bananas at the JW Marriott, Chandigarh. After the tweet went viral, the Excise and Taxation Department sent a three-member team and seized all records in connection with the exorbitant GST rates charged by the hotel. Reportedly, the City Deputy Commissioner and the Taxation Commissioner Mandip Singh Brar ordered a probe into the matter after which the team paid a visit to the hotel. The officials have stated that it is not only a case of 'illegal and exorbitant charge of GST' but it is also a violation of the Consumer Protection Act.
For the uninitiated, fresh fruits are tax-free items, but a 'fruit platter' is a taxable item. However, as seen in the video, the actor was given fresh fruits and the tax has been charged on it which is an offense.
In the video posted by the actor on social media, he can be heard saying that he placed the order to two bananas while working out at the gym, and received them while returning back to the room but was completely shocked after seeing the total amount charged by the luxury hotel. The bananas were grandly listed as 'Fruit Platter' in the bill.
Bose ended the video by saying that the bananas are 'too good for him'.
You have to see this to believe it. Who said fruit wasn’t harmful to your existence? Ask the wonderful folks at @JWMarriottChd #goingbananas #howtogetfitandgobroke #potassiumforkings pic.twitter.com/SNJvecHvZB— Rahul Bose (@RahulBose1) July 22, 2019
The video also gained the attention of netizens and other partner luxury hotels who have called JW Mariott out and pointed out that this proves that the hotel was trying to dupe the customer. Many also suggested that Bose take up the issue with the hotel as it would be ideal.
Professionally, Rahul Bose was last seen in 'Vishwaroopam II' in 2018. A year prior to that, he directed, produced and acted in the biopic' Poorna' that revolved around the youngest girl to climb Mount Everest.
