Rajkummar Rao: From 'Love Sex Aur Dhokha' To A National Award Winning Actor

Rajkummar Rao is one of the most sought-after actors in Bollywood today. And why not, the actor has managed to amaze everyone with his body of work. The actor was seen in 'Fanney Khan' starring Anil Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The 'Gangs of Wasseypur 2' star essayed the role of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's love interest in the film. With his latest film 'Stree' starring Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, and Aparshakti Khurana to name a few.


The actor who graduated from FTII (Film and Television Institute of India) got his big break in 2010 with Dibakar Banerjee ’s film ‘Love Sex Aur Dhokha’. He later featured in 'Ragini MMS' in a negative role. He was much appreciated for his work in both the films. In the year 2012, the actor featured in three films in small roles. In Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur 2’, he played the role of Shamshad Alam, but he had very less screen time. He portrayed the role of freedom fighter Lokenath Bal, in the film ‘Chittagong’. In Aamir Khan starrer  ‘Talaash’, he was the junior officer to Aamir Khan's character. Even though the screen time he received in these films is less, he made an impact with his acting, which became a pathway for his prosperous acting career.

Post this he got critical and commercial success with his portrayal of Govind in Abhishek Kapoor's 'Kai Po Che'. The film had three male leads and yet Rao managed to stand out with his work. This led to his first solo film 'Shahid' in 2013 which won him his first National Award For Best Actor. The film was about a human right activist Shahid Azmi. While many might usually opt for solo lead films post such a feat, Rao chose to do 'Queen' which was dominated by Kangana Ranaut's character. However, he even got appreciated for his role in the film.

The 'Newton' actor then went on to do several films, portraying a variety of characters. His films include ''Trapped', 'Bareilly Ki Barfi', 'Shaadi Mai Zaroor Aana', 'Omerta' and 'Citylights'. 


The actor was last seen in Atul Manjrekar's 'Fanney Khan' alongside Anil Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai. Rajkummar Rao played the role of  Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's love interest in the film. The 'Shahid' actor's latest film to hit the silver screens is a horror-comedy 'Stree' starring Shraddha Kapoor. The trailer of the movie, that released recently had the audience in splits, with Rajkummar Rao's hilarious expressions and also awed by his innocent look. The 'Newton' actor will be seen next in '5 Weddings' starring Nargis Fakhri which is slated to release on September 21. Rajkummar Rao will be portraying the role of a police officer who has the responsibility of showing around the local areas to a reporter from the USA.
