The Delhi High Court on Friday, November 30 sentenced Rajpal Yadav to three-month civil prison for defaulting on loan repayment. The actor was immediately taken into custody by the Delhi police, as a per news agency ANI. The case relates to a loan of Rs 5 crore allegedly taken by Rajpal and his wife Radha for the movie 'Ata Pata Laapata' in 2010, which was his directorial debut. According to reports, Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw directed the police to keep him in the Tihar Jail.
While further details are awaited the case in question refers to the same one filed by a Delhi-based entrepreneur M.G. Agarwal (owner of Murli Projects) against the actor-couple in the Delhi High Court.
Rajpal was previously sentenced to six-month imprisonment by a Delhi court in April this year. He was, however, granted bail at that time. The couple had at that time promised in an agreement to repay Rs 11.90 crore to the entrepreneur. Earlier, in 2013, the actor was sentenced to a 10-day imprisonment regarding the same case.
Rajpal has been known for his comic roles in a career spanning almost two decades and his depictions in movies like 'Waqt: The Race Against Time', 'Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon', 'Main, Meri Patni Aur Woh', 'Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? and numerous Priyadarshan movies like ‘Chup Chup Ke', ‘Garam Masala’, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ and ‘Dhol’ are well-known and much-loved.
While Yadav no longer appears in films at the frequency at which he used to, the actor's next will be ‘Total Dhamaal’ which stars Ajay Devgn, Madhuri Dixit-Nene, Anil Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Jaaved Jaaferi and Riteish Deshmukh in the lead roles.
