A feeling of euphoria gripped the nation as the Supreme Court, on September 6, abolished Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code thereby decriminalising consensual adult gay sex. As the rainbow flag fluttered with pride, Bollywood stars too joined in the jubilant celebrations. A number of celebrities took to social media to laud the court’s verdict to diminish the archaic law. Among others, filmmaker Karan Johar took to Twitter express his joy. He said, “Historical judgment!!!! So proud today! Decriminalising homosexuality and abolishing #Section377 is a huge thumbs up for humanity and equal rights! The country gets its oxygen back! 👍👍👍💪💪💪🙏🙏🙏''. And recently, during Twinkle Khanna’s book launch, Ranveer Singh poked fun at Johar with regard to the abolishment of Section 377.
The launch event of Twinkle Khanna’s novel ‘Pyjamas are Forgiving’ was a star-studded affair with Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Bobby Deol, and Dimple Kapadia in attendance.
