Really hope CBFC would lift the ban: Alia Bhatt backs mother’s ‘No Fathers in Kashmir’ as support pours in from celebrities

Alia Bhatt requested the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to ‘lift the ban’ on her mother Soni Razdan’s movie ‘No Fathers in Kashmir’ as the movie is ‘stuck for months’ waiting for a certificate. Swara Bhasker, Pritish Nandy and Shashi Tharoor were among the others who had tweeted in support of it previously.

The actress wrote that she was looking forward to the movie as her mother Soni Razdan, director Ashvin Kumar and the team had worked ‘super hard for this honest teens love story in Kashmir’ and hoped CBFC would ‘lift the ban.’ She added that the film is about ‘empathy and compassion’ and concluded her tweet with the line, “Let’s give love a chance!” 

The CBFC had given an ‘A’ certificate to the movie in October last year, according to reports. Director Ashvin, who has been nominated for the Oscars for ‘Little Terrorist’ and is a two-time National Award winner for ‘Inshallah, Football’, approached the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) to review the CBFC's decision. Since then the movie has been going ‘back and forth’ as the team waits for a hearing, depriving it a chance to qualify for the National Awards this year, according to reports. 

Previously, Soni had stated that Kumar knew Kashmir well, first thing she felt when she read this script and that prompted her to come on board the film. She had termed the movie one ‘that doesn’t pretend ... doesn’t mislead ... and most importantly doesn’t lie.’ 

The ‘Raazi’ actress had tweeted about the ‘gentle’’ treatment of the movie filled with ironies and tongue-in-cheek humour and called it ‘a wonderful story full of courageous, innocent and sometimes foolish characters’ where ‘no one is demonised.’ 

She 'implored' at a time when people are getting to know the ‘wonderful place called Kashmir just a little bit better',  tagging CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi, to ‘give truth and integrity a chance’.

The ‘Veere Di Wedding’ star wrote how the movie ‘has been stuck for over six months now’ as it went back and forth between CBFC and FCAT, and tagged Prasoon Joshi to take a note of it. 

Former MP, poet and film producer Nandy had tweeted way back at the end of December that ‘fine film maker, an Oscar nominee’ Kumar has not been given a hearing and requested Joshi to help him.

MP Tharoor called it ‘Unconscionable’ as the movie ‘tipped as 1 of 10 eagerly awaited films of 2019’ ‘remains banned over 6 months’ because of which the release date has been delayed and the chance to apply for the National Awards this year 'forfeited.'
