Legendary Bollywood actress Sridevi, who is considered as one of the most talented, beautiful and successful actors of all time. On her first death anniversary, let us reminisce some of her iconic films.

Legendary Bollywood actress Sridevi, who is considered as one of the most talented, beautiful and successful actors of all time, passed away at the age of 52 in Abu Dhabi last year on February 24, while she was attending the wedding celebrations of her nephew Mohit Marwah. Her death was termed due to 'accidental drowning' in her hotel bathtub in Dubai. The news of her sudden demise came as a shock both to her family and the nation. Several celebrities across domains grieved the loss and paid tribute to the late actress. 

Sridevi, who has worked in films of different Indian languages including Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada is known to have delivered some of her best on-screen performances in Bollywood. On her first death anniversary, let us reminisce some of her iconic films.  

Here are the five times the actress stunned us with her unconventional roles:

Sadma (1983)

'Sadma' is a 1983 Indian romantic film, written, directed and filmed by Balu Mahendra. It featured Sridevi and Kamal Hassan in the lead and narrated the story of a girl named Nehalata, who happens to have lost her mental balance post an accident. Sridevi ace in the role of the woman who behaves like a six-year-old due to a brain injury, and mesmerized the audience with her convincing performance.

Chandni (1989)

'Chandni' is a 1989 romantic saga, directed and produced by Yash Chopra. It featured Sridevi in the titular role along with Rishi Kapoor, Vinod Khann,  and Waheeda Rehman. The film focuses on a girl named Chandni, whose fiancé gets paralyzed in an accident and she agrees to marry her boss who falls in love with her. However, she faces a dilemma when her fiancé returns to her life. Sridevi was widely appreciated for her performance in the film. In fact, she achieved a milestone and the title of a superstar with the film.

Mr. India

'Mr. India' is one of the iconic movies where Sridevi shared screen-space with her brother-in-law Anil Kapoor, and their on-screen whirlwind romance became broought them huge appreciation. The science fiction film directed by Shekhar Kapur, featured Sridevi as Anil Kapoor's love interest who made a place in the heart of the audiance with her performance in 'Hawa Hawai'.

English Vinglish

After talking a long break from her career, Sridevi made a powerful come back to the silver screen after 15-year with 'English Vinglish' in 2012. She essaying the role of a housewife in the film who steps out of her comfort zone to find dignity for herself. The convincing and relatable acting of Sridevi once again proved her versatility.

MOM

'Mom' marks one of the most powerful performances of Sridevi. In the film, she was featured as a biology teacher, Devki who seeks help from DK, a private detective, and vows to get revenge after her stepdaughter's rapists are acquitted by the court. The crime thriller film directed by Ravi Udaywar and it was Sridevi's 300th, and final major film appearance before her death on 24 February 2018.
