Remembering the legend: 5 of Shashi Kapoor's best on-screen pairings

Among the many fine qualities of veteran actor Shashi Kapoor is the fact that he was a wonderful romantic hero. From Rekha to Zeenat Aman to Sharmila Tagore, he had romanced all of Bollywood's leading ladies during his time. Kapoor had the best on-screen chemistry with most of his leading ladies.

Here are five of his most iconic pairings on-screen. 

1. Shashi Kapoor-Sharmila Tagore:

One of the most iconic pairings in the 1970s and 80s, Shashi Kapoor and Sharmila Tagore have the silver screen on fire on many occasions and their chemistry was renowned across the film industry. Some of the films that they worked together included Waqt (1965), Suhana Safar (1970), and Anari (1975).  

2. Shashi Kapoor- Zeenat Aman:

Who can forget the iconic romance between Shashi Kapoor and Zeenat Aman in the Satyam Shivam Sundaram (1978)? The film was a raging success and took the box-office by a storm when it released in the 70s. The two of them also worked together in a string of other films, such as Heeralal Pannalal (1978) and Deewangee (1976).

3. Shashi Kapoor-Shabana Azmi:

Given his charm and grace, Shashi Kapoor was a wonderful co-star and shared a wonderful rapport with all his leading ladies. His on-screen relationship with Shabana Azmi was equally successful and the two of them delivered multiple hits, including Hira Aur Patthar (1977) and Chor Sipahee (1979).

4. Shashi Kapoor-Rekha: 

Even though Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan were the most popular on-screen couple at that time, Shashi Kapoor too had done several films with the Khubsoorat actress and their on-screen chemistry was highly appreciated across the board.  Some of the hit films the powerhouse actors did together include Suhaag (1979), Do Musafir (1978), and Khali Ghata (1980). 

5. Shashi Kapoor-Neetu Singh:

Some of the greatest hits in Shashi Kapoor's acting career involved films that he had done with Neetu Singh. The duo's chemistry was sizzling and together they set the box-office on fire. Their greatest hits included films like Deewar (1975), Yash Chopra's Kabhi Kabhi (1976), and Kaala Patthar (1979). Neetu Singh also went on to become the Kapoor Bahu as she married Shahi Kapoor's nephew, Raj Kapoor's son Rishi Kapoor.
