After Vivek Oberoi's upcoming film 'PM Narendra Modi' biopic was given a 'U' certificate, the Election Commission banned its screening during poll period.
The EC said a film that subserves purpose of any political entity or individual should not be displayed in the electronic media. The Supreme Court left the decision on the EC.
And now 'Hum Aapke Hain Kaun' actress Renuka Shahane took to her Twitter handle and voiced her opinion. She wrote: "I don't support the postponing of any film if our censor board has passed it & if the family members of the person on whom the film is based have no objections. The EC should concentrate on political parties to see that they're adhering to the rules rather than films & tv serials."
She further responded to a user who raised an issue of 'propaganda', to which she said: "But everybody knows it's intent is propaganda. I believe one should trust the intelligence of our people. Films should not be stalled by people other than the censor board because they are the only constitutional authority & we must protect their independence."
Renuka Shahane further clarified her being in the 'Congress-Bollywood video' to a user and said: "It's not a Congress video. It was a video edited by Satyen Bordoloi & put up on his YouTube channel. Both the Congress & AAP shared it. Our fuller versions of the interviews are still available on his YouTube channel. And btw ALL political parties interfere with press freedom!"
