  • The ‘All the Best’ maker then stated that after 48 hours someone else would’ve become a ‘bakra’ on social media, some other controversy would’ve happened by then

One needs to back their friends, family and collaborators when they are attacked, and that’s what Rohit Shetty did for his ‘Sooryavanshi’ actor Akshay Kumar. The latter is being slammed by a section of the citizens for announcing that he holds a Canadian passport. The filmmaker, however, says the actor is someone who’s contributed for various causes and that Akshay will remain Akshay despite the controversy. The ‘Golmaal’ director also said that the row will die down in a few days since someone else would’ve become a ‘bakra’ (target) by then.

Rohit-Akshay's ‘Sooryavanshi’, their first-time collaboration, a cop drama of the filmmaker’s police universe which also includes Ajay Devgn’s ‘Singham’ and Rohit Shetty’s ‘Simmba’, recently went on floors. Amid the high buzz surrounding the movie, Akshay’s citizenship issue became a part of the headlines too.

When asked about the controversy in a recent interview with a portal, Rohit said that the row was among those issues that last for two-three days and irrespective of that, Akshay Kumar will remain Akshay Kumar. The director added that Akshay works for a lot of issues including for 'Bharat Ke Veer' (soldiers), but never publicises them.

The ‘All the Best’ maker then stated that after 48 hours someone else would’ve become a ‘bakra’ on social media, some other controversy would’ve happened by then since someone is always trying to prove themselves right by showing someone in a bad light.

After Akshay didn't vote in the Lok Sabha elections, his Canadian citizenship came to the fore once again. Reports contrary to the actor's claim that he was honorary citizen of Canada also added to the controversy. Akshay later clarified that he found it disappointing that his love for India is questioned and the citizenship issue becomes a part of the controversy though he's never hidden it.

Before Rohit, Anupam Kher and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also supported Akshay in the controversy.
