Sanam Puri: The YouTuber's journey to become a singing sensation

Sanam Puri is an Indian singer and a YouTuber. The singer came up with his own ‘Sanam band’ along with his four friends. Today, the Sanam band has 6.74 million followers on YouTube and is widely famous for its renditions of old Bollywood classics. His ‘Aaj Kal Tere Mere Pyar Ke Charche’ song rendition gained 74k views in just an hour of its release.

Personal Life

The 27-year-old was born in New Delhi but now lives in Mumbai for his work commitments. He completed his education from Kirori Mal College in New Delhi. Sanam participated in his college events and won several trophies for his singing talent. Sanam has an elder brother - Samar Puri. The two decided to work on music together and start with their own music band.

The story behind 'Sanam Band'

The journey began in Muscat 2003, when Sanam’s brother, Samar, thought of coming up with a band. Sanam was the lead singer, Venky S was the bass guitarist, Samar was the lyricist and composer, while Keshav was the drummer. In 2010, the band saw the release of their first album ‘Supastars.’ In 2012, Sanam met the director of Kurian & Co and spoke about the plan of starting a new band. The talent management team learned about his projects and gave Sanam an opportunity to pave his way into the music industry. Sanam began his journey in Bollywood as a playback singer under Vishal-Shekhar.

More about his professional life

Sanam Puri’s 'Sanam Band' started flourishing after they were invited to perform for the YouTube FanFest in 2015. They also performed for the 50^th anniversary of Independence, at the Republic of Maldives. Sanam’s song ‘Yaara’ was released in 2016 after his collaboration with A R Rahman. It gave his band the label of being ‘India’s One Direction.’ After that, the count of his music videos kept on increasing. His songs ‘Tere Bina Zindagi Se’ and ‘Lag Ja Gale’ hit 67 million views within a month of their release. Sanam recently sang the song ‘Fakira’ for the movie ‘Student of the year 2’.

In an interview, Sanam shared that he was six years old when he discovered he could sing. When he came to Mumbai, he learned that there was a lot he could do with his talent. That’s how it all began. Sanam Puri is dating Asmi Shresthaa, and the two have shared a lot of posts together on their social media handles. The 'Sanam Band' last performed in South Africa on August 31, and now are all geared up to perform live at Pheonix Market City, Hyderabad on November 9.
