Saroj Khan reveals why she was ‘summarily replaced’ with Prabhudeva for Katrina Kaif's ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ song

A lot was expected from ‘Thugs of Hindostan’, but the action-adventure movie turned out to be a damp squib. While the script was panned unanimously, not even Katrina Kaif’s dance numbers could save the Aamir Khan-Amitabh Bachchan starrer. The songs received mixed response too, but could it have been any different if Saroj Khan would’ve choregraphed the moves? The veteran choreographer claims she was set to choreograph for a song in the movie, but was replaced because the actress was not keen to work without rehearsals.

Saroj Khan is one again reuniting with Madhuri Dixit Nene in ‘Kalank’, a hit partnership that has created some memorable moves in memorable songs over the years. In a recent interview, the choreographer said she had lost interest to choreograph for a while, but looking at the current situation of dance in the industry, she felt like doing something notable for the industry.

She also expressed displeasure over how none of the actresses today looked distinctive like actresses of the yore. Saroj added that she couldn’t judge the actresses currently since she has only seen them in tracks choreogaphed by others.

The veteran then spoke about Katrina that she ‘looks good’ and they were set to work for ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ (‘Suraiyya’ song.) She then claimed that when the shoot was about to take place, Katrina told the producers that she doesn’t want to do the song without rehearsals. Saroj claimed following that, she was ‘summarily replaced’ by Prabhudeva.

Nevertheless, with the buzz surrounding 'Kalank', the hit Saroj-Madhuri number would be keenly looked forward to by the viewers.
