Section 375: Producers and Cast summoned by Pune Civil Court

Section 375 starring Akshaye Khanna and Richa Chadda in lead roles has got itself embroiled in a controversy; the makers have been summoned by a Pune Court

The film, Section 375 will be released in theatres on Friday, September 13. The film stars Akshaye Khanna and Richa Chadda in its lead roles, and is directed by Ajay Bahl. The film has garnered positive reviews from the critics. But it seems that the film has also managed to get embroiled in a controversy which could spell trouble for the makers. The producers of the film, Kumar Mangal Pathak and Abhishek Mangal Pathak along with the lead actor, Akshaye Khanna has been summoned by a Pune Civil Court.

Section 375 Accused of Showing Lawyers in a Bad Light

The reason behind this is that the makers of the film have been accused of showing the lawyers in a negative light in the trailer of the film. For the unversed, the film is based on Section 375 of the Indian Penal Code. It is a bold and gritty courtroom drama which has managed to get the attention of the viewers right since its first look. The movie revolves around a young woman who accuses her boss of raping her. Akshaye Khanna and Richa Chadda play rival lawyers who battle it out in the court to defend their respective clients.

Film Criticized for a Cross-Statement Scene

The film is being lauded for its compelling dialogues and the performances. However, the makers have now been issued a warrant by the Pune court. Reportedly, an advocate has lodged a complaint against the makers stating that the trailer of the film shows the court proceedings along with the conduct of the lawyers in a negative way.

According to media reports, one of the scenes from the trailer which shows the lawyer asking objectionable questions to the alleged rape victim has especially garnered several criticisms. The advocate has reportedly said, "such cross-statements are never recorded in an open court but only in-camera." However, the makers have not yet divulged much on this ongoing controversy.

The film also stars Rahul Bhatt and Meera Chopra in pivotal roles. The film, Section 375 will see a clash with the Ayushmann Khurrana and Nushrat Bharucha starrer Dream Girl.
