The fact that the word ‘underrated’ is often associated with Akshaye Khanna is testimony enough for his acting chops, something he displays once again in ‘Section 375.’ This time, he is showing his acting finesse as a lawyer, and is pitted against another talented performer, Richa Chadha. The trailer of the courtroom drama was unveiled on Tuesday and from the initial glimpses, promises to be a hard-hitting drama revolving around a rape case.
The story is about a woman, played by Meera Chopra, who accuses a leading producer, played by Rahul Bhat, of rape. Meera is seen giving a fitting response when she is asked about the alleged incident when she registers the complaint.
The case goes to the court and it is a battle between not just the alleged victim and perpetrator and the two lawyers, but also of two ideologies as they try to point loopholes in each other’s arguments. The reason for the victim’s visit, the marks on her body, become the point of discussion in the court.
Richa had previously worked with Akshaye, but had quit over his ‘Business of law, not the business of justice’ ideology. He even tells Rahul that he knew how to present the facts in the court when the latter offers to reveal the truth to him. He even asserts that ‘even a convicted rapist has the right to get legal defence’ as he faces ink attack and even citizen protests.
Richa, meanwhile, stresses on Section 375 entailing both ‘consent and permission’ of the alleged victim with regards to rape.
‘Section 375’ has been helmed by Ajay Bahl, the director of the controversial but critically acclaimed ‘BA Pass.’
The movie releases exactly a month from now, September 13, but it will have National Award-winner Ayushmann Khurrana’s ‘Dream Girl’ to compete with at the ticket windows.
