In other news, Shabana Azmi recently grabbed headlines when she addressed a crowd for CPI candidate Kanhaiya Kumar. Shabana along with lyricist and screen-writer Javed Akhtar were in Begusarai campaigning for Kanhaiya Kumar. At an election rally in Begusarai, Shabana Azmi said: "BJP is aware that they have not fulfilled any promises and therefore they are resorting to their old tactics of inciting communal tension to win elections. BJP is trying to divide the votes of Hindus and Muslims and spread hatred. All the allegations against Kanhaiya Kumar are politically motivated. I urge the people to vote for Kanhaiya to save the Constitution."
