The King of Romance has now become a Doctor of Philanthropy in real life. Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, was honoured by the University of Law, London during a graduation ceremony for more than 350 students on Thursday.

Take a look here:

In his acceptance speech, Khan said,

"This might have been the result of the melodrama of Bollywood plots but it was more likely just the fact that shared emotions and the simple language of their expression reaches across and binds people of all definitions. In fact, I can't emphasize enough, the importance of expression as a binding force for compassion. It is only by expressing our stories that we create the ground for our life experience to be accepted and understood."

He said that the reason for his popularity across the globe is the fact that what he expresses on-screen is a universal emotion which everybody relates to. Khan has already received honorary doctorates from the University of Bedfordshire and the University of Edinburgh.

Everyone knows Khan as a successful actor, but over the years he has also established himself as a successful film producer, television host, philanthropist and an entrepreneur. This 'Kabir Khan' from 'Chak de India' has also earned love and support for championing human rights in India. He is known to have given a helping hand to Indian government's campaigns, like National Aids Control Organisation and Pulse Polio. He has worked closely with the 'Make-a-Wish' foundation and several other charitable foundations. He has done a lot of charity work in Africa and Singapore, and he is the only Indian to get an award from UNESCO for his charitable deeds.

“I believe that charity should be done in silence and with dignity. One cannot speak about their charitable acts because it loses its purpose. I have been privileged to be able to use my status as a public personality to champion causes close to my heart,” Shah Rukh said in a statement.

Khan humbly added,

“I actively participate with the causes of women empowerment, rehabilitation of the underprivileged and basic human rights. I firmly believe that I have to give back to the world that has given me so much. I am humbled with this honorary doctorate bestowed upon me and would like to thank everyone involved for choosing me."

He also told the students that one of the greatest learning for him has been to appreciate the sheer simplicity of humour and entertainment as a powerful tool for strengthening human bonds across all races, cultures, nationalities, and religion.

Even before he ended his speech, he said that hoarding one's success makes them insecure and leads to narrowing of power. It is not for nothing that his wisdom has touched and inspired many, and over the years, his wisdom and charity work, both have only grown.
