Now as the actor is celebrating his 53rd birthday, here are a few lesser-known facts about SRK that will leave you stunned...

Turned daredevil while shooting Chaiyya Chaiyya

Shah Rukh can go to any lengths for his craft and the famous song Chaiyya Chaiyya proves this fact. While shooting for the song on top of the train, the actor revealed that he was the only one who was not tied as he had to jump in between sequences. SRK also disclosed that they had to sometimes duck on the roof of the train when a tunnel was incoming and confessed that it was one of the scariest experiences of his life.

His early days as an usher

Before entering the world of glitz and glamour, the superstar used to do odd jobs. One of his first gigs was as an usher at a Pankaj Udhas concert. The actor revealed that for work he travelled from Delhi to Agra and his first salary was just Rs 50. It is really amazing to see King Khan's humble beginnings.  

Gave away his award to Salman Khan

There may be some kind of rivalry between fans of Salman and Shah Rukh Khan, but the two have always been friends barring a few years. What better example to showcase their friendship than this incident. During an award show in 1998, when he won the best actor award, SRK actually invited Salman on stage and handed him the trophy. He even asked him to give the thank you speech! 

Did not read the script for 'DDLJ'

'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' was perhaps one of the most crucial films in SRK's career. The romantic drama was a game changer and is still considered iconic to this day. So this will really shock some that the actor did not even read the film's script before signing! Apparently, he did so out of love for filmmaker Aditya Chopra. 

A doctor and a Knight

Some actors are awarded an honorary doctorate, some are given Knighthood, well Shah Rukh has both. He was awarded a doctorate for his contributions in philanthropy, altruism and his contributions in films from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. He has also received the title of "Datuk" from the Malaysian is an equivalent to British knighthood.

Motivated Shahid Kapoor to take up acting

We all have to thank King Khan for giving us the talented Shahid Kapoor. The actor himself has revealed that it was SRK who actually spotted him in his younger days when he was a dancer in Shyamak Davar's dance troop. He also motivated Shahid to take up a career in showbiz and rest, as they say, is history.  

Obsession with the number 555

Although he is very modern in his life philosophy, he does have one little superstition. SRK is actually obsessed with the number 555 and all his cars, his phone number and that of his staff has the number for he thinks it brings him luck.
