It’s official! Aamir Khan will be playing Lord Krishna in a project on ‘Mahabharata’. The news was confirmed by Shah Rukh Khan.

Aamir is yet to officially announce his next after the release of ‘Thugs of Hindostan’. Reports of him planning a big project around ‘Mahabharata’ had been abuzz for a long time, but fizzled.

There were reports he was planning to do a biopic on Osho, to be directed by Shakun Batra for Karan Johar’s banner. However, at an event last month, writer Anjum Rajabali revealed that Aamir’s decision to quit the biopic on astronaut Rakesh Sharma was due to his involvement with the ‘Mahabharata’ project. The actor was standing beside the writer and was embarrassed about the statement letting out the secret and said, “Oh my god!”

While there was speculation over the project being a film, later the mythological story coming out in a seven-part web series also started doing the rounds. There is buzz of Mukesh Ambani being one of the producers of the project.

Incidentally, the biopic on Rakesh Sharma, titled ‘Saare Jahaan Se Achcha’ will now be done by Shah Rukh, after Aamir suggested he should do it.

SRK is currently in the news for the release of 'Zero', where he plays the role of a vertically challenged man. The movie, directed by Aanand L Rai and also starring Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif, has opened to mixed reviews and collected more than Rs 21 crore at the box office on the opening day.
