Shah Rukh Khan had a noble gesture for para-athletes on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3. The superstar donated 50 wheelchairs to the athletes representing India through his NGO, Meer Foundation.
SRK has collaborated with Deepa Malik, one of the most renowned para-athletes of the country and her organisation, Wheeling Happiness. The actor was seen cheering in September for the athletes before they headed for the Asian Para Games.
The actor said it was a ‘privilege’ to associate with Deepa, who he called not just an ‘inspiration’, but also 'reflection of ourselves.' He added that his decision was a step forward in achieving the dream of representing India at the Paralympics.
“It has been a privilege knowing and associating with Deepa for a cause as virtuous as this. She is not just an inspiration to many but also a reflection of ourselves as we all are incomplete in one way or the other, and it is for us to embrace our imperfections and achieve our goals. Felicitating these para-athletes is a step forward in achieving the dream of representing India at the Paralympics,” SRK was quoted as saying by ANI.
Deepa also conveyed her gratitude to Shah Rukh for his gesture, saying it not just motivates the athletes but also does a world of good to their confidence. She said, “It is an extremely gracious step by Shah Rukh Khan’s Meer Foundation to extend their support to the Wheeling Happiness to enable the para-athletes as it not only facilitates them but also motivates and boosts their confidence.”
