Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, who were last seen together in Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Haider', have once again teamed up for another social issue 'Batti Gul Meter Chalu'.The film highlights the problem of electricity shortage and the inaccuracies in electricity bills in India. The film also features Yami Gautam and Divyendu Sharma in pivotal roles.

Shahid's brother Ishaan Khattar recently proved his acting chops with Karan Johar's 'Dhadak' opposite debutant Janhvi Kapoor. When Shahid was asked about why he was missing from the 'Dhadak' success party, the 'Udta Punjab' actor said, "I was shooting for 'Batti Gul Meter Chalu' when the trailer of 'Dhadak' was launched. I saw it on my phone... Ishaan is such a good actor that he doesn't need my support. He is fine without me." He further added, "He did not call me for the success party. I saw the photos on Instagram. I wasn't invited, I messaged him today after watching his after-party pictures. I messaged him saying thanks for letting me know and he replies, 'I wasn't sure if I want to call anybody".

Post films like 'Haider' and 'Udta Punjab' Shahid is back with another socially relevant film and he revealed why an actor should not miss on to these opportunities to spread awareness about a social issue through films,"’Haider’ was about human rights, which is a massive issue in Kashmir and in North East states, then I did ‘Udta Punjab’, which was about the drug issue.

He further stated, “I feel proud to be a part of this film. One would think it (electricity) is a small issue but it is not for others. As actors, if we can represent those issues, it would be good as we have the opportunity to say something nice otherwise we will lose the chance."

Talking about the issue of electricity that our country is currently facing, Shahid revealed that though the problem appears s to be small, there are 31 million houses without electricity.

“We are not making a documentary film as it will never reach anywhere. So, you have to make it entertaining and take mainstream actors so you can reach out to a wider audience, The issue of electricity is there both in small and big cities. There are 31 million houses without electricity. Also, there has been a sudden rise in bills due to the privatization of electricity", Shahid said.

Meanwhile 'Batti Gul Meter Chalu' will hit the screens on September 21.
