Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, who were last seen together in Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Haider', have once again teamed up for a film based on the social issue of exorbitant electricity bills, 'Batti Gul Meter Chalu'.The film highlights the problem of electricity shortage and the inaccuracy of electricity bills in India and also features Yami Gautam and Divyendu Sharma in pivotal roles. Post films like 'Haider' and 'Udta Punjab', Shahid is back with yet another socially relevant film and he revealed why an actor should not miss out on such opportunities to create awareness about various issues through films. 'Haider’ was about human rights, which is a massive issue in Kashmir and in North East states, then he went on to do ‘Udta Punjab’, which was about drug addiction.

Speaking about the electricity problem which still persists in our society, he further asserted, “I feel proud to be a part of this film. One would think it (electricity) is a small issue but it is not for others. As actors, if we can represent those issues, it would be good as we have the opportunity to say something nice otherwise we will lose the chance."

Reminiscing about his struggling days, Shahid revealed that he could completely relate to the problem given that he was living a middle-class life till he was 21-22-years-old. He lived in a rented house where electricity bills were a major matter of concern. The actor admitted to going to private company offices and arguing about matters pertaining to bills.

Shahid has been missing from the promotional activities of 'Batti Gul Meter Chalu', and the 'Padmaavat' actor recently revealed the reason behind his absence. He took to Twitter and wrote, “The last few days have been tough. Misha running very high fever and Zain just came home. Have had to miss some promotions. Just 9 days to go for Batti Gul meter chalu to release but being a parent is above all else. Hope to resume promotions very soon.”
