Simmba: Legal Trouble For Ranveer Singh-Rohit Shetty's Action Film After A Beverage Company Moves Court

There’s legal trouble for Ranveer Singh's action film 'Simmba', directed and co-produced by Rohit Shetty. A Chhattisgarh-based company Sona Beverages Co Ltd has approached the Delhi High Court alleging copyright infringement by the makers of 'Simmba'.

‘Simmba’ is one of the most awaited films of the year, but before the trailer or the teaser hits the Internet, there’s legal trouble for Ranveer Singh's action film. A Chhattisgarh-based company Sona Beverages Co Ltd has approached the Delhi High Court alleging copyright infringement by the makers of 'Simmba', according to a report in DNA.

Justice Pratibha M Singh in his order on November 2, directed Rohit Shetty’s production company Rohit Shetty Picturez to respond to the notice sent by the beverage company and explore the possibility of entering an arrangement, the failure of which will lead to the case being heard on the next date, December 4. 

The company claims that their registered trademark ‘Simba’ has been used widely for their products like beers, mineral and aerated water and other forms of non-alcoholic drinks. Apart from that, their merchandise consisting of playing cards, glasses, notepads and other accessories also uses the registered trademark.

'Simmba' is the first collaboration between Ranveer Singh and Rohit Shetty. The movie also stars Sara Ali Khan in the lead role and features Sonu Sood in the role of an antagonist. The 'Golmaal' gang featuring Arshad Warsi, Shreyas Talpade, Tusshar Kapoor and Kunal Kemmu have also shot for a cameo and Ajay Devgn is reportedly set to feature in the role of his popular character 'Singham' in the climax. 

The movie is an adaptation of the Telugu movie, 'Temper' starring Junior NTR. However, Rohit had clarified that 'Simmba' will only be an adaptation and that he will make the movie in his own style. Karan Johar's Dharma Productions is also among the producers of the movie, and it is also the first collaboration between the two popular filmmakers. 'Simmba' releases on 28 December, however, it faces box office threat in the form of Shah Rukh Khan's 'Zero' that will be releasing just a week before. The movie will also be Ranveer's first release after his marriage with Deepika Padukone on November 14 and 15.
