Ranveer Singh ended 2018 with a bang with the release of his cop film 'Simmba'. The film has since become a blockbuster and has become the biggest commercial hit in the actor's career. The Rohit Shetty directorial breezed past Rs 100 crore and Rs 200 crore in no time and now it has achieved another incredible feat.
'Simmba' has now become the highest grossing film of Rohit Shetty's career as it has now amassed Rs 227.71 crore in India itself. Although many loved the film, a few members of the audience and the critics accused the makers of using rape inappropriately in the film.
Reacting to these accusations, Rohit Shetty in an interview to Anupama Chopra stated that he has helmed around 13 films, out of which 8 of them have crossed Rs 100 crores at the film, while other two have crossed Rs 200 crore mark at the ticketing counters, and so he does not need to use something as pathetic as 'rape' to make his film hit.
When Ranveer Singh was asked the same question on Rajeev Masand's talk show, he stated that if there are any problems with the film, then one should take it up with Rohit Shetty, as he is an actor and he has never promised anything else but 'entertainment' to the people.
On the professional front, Ranveer Singh will next be seen in 'Gully Boy'. Directed by Zoya Akhtar, the film tells the story of an aspiring rapper. However, since success comes easy for none, the boy who is from a humble beginning has to struggle his way up to the heights of fame. Besides Ranveer, the film also stars Alia Bhatt in the lead.
As for Rohit Shetty, he is all set to helm 'Sooryavanshi', that is said to star Akshay Kumar in the lead role.
