Despite the fact that it wasn't a big holiday release, the Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor starrer 'Stree' had an unexpected weekend, with audiences flocking to the theatres to watch this horror comedy-drama. The film seems to have struck gold at the box office as it has collected Rs.31.26 crores in its opening weekend. With a mere opening of Rs.6.82 crores, thanks to a positive response from the audience, 'Stree' picked up well on its second and third day by collecting Rs.10.87 crores and Rs. 13.57 crores on Saturday and Sunday respectively. In fact, trade analyst Taran Adarsh on Monday tweeted that 'Stree' has performed beyond expectations. Sharing a break up of the film's box office figures so far, Taran Adarsh, in his tweet wrote, "All estimations and calculations go for a toss... #Stree wreaks havoc at ticket counters... Multiplexes, single screens, metros, mass circuits - this one has worked across the board... Fri 6.82 cr, Sat 10.87 cr, Sun 13.57 cr. Total: ₹ 31.26 cr. India biz."
'Stree' that saw Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor pair up for the first time released last weekend along with 'Yamla Pagala Deewana Phir Se' that packed a punch with veteran actor Dharmendra sharing screen space along with his two sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol.
The makers who claimed that the film is based on the writers Raj & DK's true experiences, themselves seem to have experienced some paranormal activities while shooting for the film. Raj & DK, who have in the past directed 'Go Goa Gone' (2013), shared a real-life experience about where the story of 'Stree' originated from.
'Stree' is shot in a small town in Madhya Pradesh called 'Chanderi'. And while the team was shooting there, the locals warned the crew to not shoot on a particular street which was abandoned, but reports suggest that due to the time crunch the crew decided to go ahead with the shoot which is when they started experiencing strange things like unidentified technical glitches from the best focus puller and the flickering of lights, etc. And all these went on till 4 am and the entire crew was left in a state of shock.
'Stree' starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor is the story based in a small-town Chanderi, where people have a belief that a mysterious woman comes and abducts men leaving behind their clothes. The trailer of the film promises some laughs even in such a gritty situation as the film's tagline goes, 'Mard Ko Dard Hoga'. Directed by Amar Kaushik 'Stree' also starring Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee and Vijay Raaz is slated to release on August 31.
