Hack:

  • ‘Student of the Year 2’ has crossed the Rs 50-crore mark at the box office in week one, earning Rs 57.90 crore.
  • The movie didn’t do all that bad, but it should’ve done a lot better and in word, has ‘underperformed.’
  • Reasons why it didn't live up to expectations was ‘Student of the Year’ being a popular franchise, the movie releasing in over 3000 screens, and Tiger’s ‘star power’ failing to take the movie past his ‘Baaghi’s week one figures.

‘Student of the Year 2’ has crossed the Rs 50-crore mark at the box office in week one, earning Rs 57.90 crore. After a decent performance in the weekend, earning in the Rs 12-14 crore range on the three days, taking the total close to Rs 40 crore, the movie was steady in the weekdays, adding Rs 4-5 crore on each of the four days.

However, according to Taran Adarsh, who tweeted the figures, the film hasn’t lived up to expectations. The trade analyst listed three major reasons. One was ‘Student of the Year’ is a popular franchise, the movie released in over 3000 screens, and Tiger’s ‘star power’ failed to take the movie past his ‘Baaghi’s week one figures of Rs 57.90 crore three years ago.
