Gadar 2 star Sunny Deol conquers box office after 10 consecutive flops

After Pathaan dominated the record books in the first half of 2023, Hindi cinema is gearing up for another wave of success in the latter half. Actor Sunny Deol's latest offering Gadar 2 has not only breathed new life into his career but has also set the stage for a third installment in the franchise. With a collection of Rs 135.18 crore within the first three days, the film has rekindled Deol's star power.

Gadar 2 has not only rejuvenated his career but has also exceeded the combined box office earnings of his last 10 films. The film's success comes as a much-needed triumph for the actor, who has faced a string of disappointments over the past decade.

Despite high expectations, his films like Chup (2022), Blank (2019), Bhaiaji Superhittt (2018), Mohalla Assi (2018), Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se (2018), Poster Boys (2017), Ghayal Once Again (2016), I Love NY (2015), Dishkiyaoon (2014), and Singh Saab The Great (2013) did not yield box office returns, leaving the actor grappling with a string of disappointments.

The cumulative box office earnings of these films amounted to Rs 110.7 crore. The stark difference between the numbers of his 10 films and Gadar 2's first weekend earnings of Rs 135.88 crore underscores the magnitude of the film's achievement.

Gadar 2 box office triumph

Gadar 2's earned Rs 40.10 crore on its opening day which then rose to Rs 43.08 crore on the second day and surged to Rs 52 crore on Sunday. On the fourth day, it added another Rs 39-40 crore nett on Monday, propelling its 4-day earnings to Rs 173 crore, as per Box Office India.

This upward trajectory not only underscores the public's enthusiastic response but also positions the film as a significant contender for future box office records. The film stars Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, Utkarsh Sharma, Simrat Kaur and Manish Wadhwa in lead roles.
