Swara Bhasker gets Vivek Agnihotri's Twitter account locked for 'abusive comment'

Bollywood actress Swara Bhasker had expressed her dissent on the statement made by PC George, an Independent MLA from Kerala. The MLA had made an insensitive, derogatory comment about a Kerala nun who was allegedly raped by Roman Catholic Bishop Franco Mulakkal of Jalandhar diocese.

Swara Bhasker had tweeted, “Absolutely shameful and disgusting!!!! Scum present across political spectrums and religious divides in India. Literally nauseating”

To this, filmmaker and author Vivek Agnihotri made another derogatory statement making a mockery of a sensitive matter. He tweeted asking her about the placards. He wrote, “ "Where is the placard - “#MeTooProstituteNun”?

Earlier in the year, few Bollywood celebrities had taken to social media and held a campaign demanding justice for the 8-year-old rape victim of Kathua. Celebrities had posted pictures of themselves holding placards which read, "I am Hindustan. I am ashamed. #JusticeFor*". Back then, several netizens had slammed Bollywood for being selective in reacting to social issues.

However, Swara Bhasker gave a befitting reply to Agnihotri and even reported the account. She wrote, “ Vivek. Just want to point out that you are using the trauma of women who are rape survivors to slut shame and abuse in public a woman you don’t like. In the rare moments of sanity that may visit your brain - otherwise unhinged with hate- think about how low that is. #scum”

Twitter India looked into the account and locked Vivek Agnihotri’s account, forcing him to delete his tweet as it violated the rules of the social media networking site. Bhasker also shared the screenshot of the message from Twitter India.

The message from Twiter India reads, “We have reviewed the account you reported and have locked it because we found it to be in violation of the Twitter rules. If the account owner complies with our requested actions and stated policies, the account will be unlocked.”
