Tanushree has accused veteran actor Nana Patekar of misconduct while the duo was shooting for a special song for 'Horn Ok Please' in 2008. In addition to accusing Nana Patekar, the 'Aashiq Banaya Aapne' actress also lashed out at choreographer Ganesh Acharya for pressurising her for an intimate sequence in the song. The actress further went on to accuse the producer of the film, Sami Siddiqui and director Rakesh Sarang of harassing her on the set.
Several celebrities have come out in support of the actress including Sonam Kapoor, Simi Garewal, Twinkle Khanna, Farhan Akhtar, Priyanka Chopra, Ayushmann Khurrana, Renuka Shahane, Anurag Kashyap, Kajol, Kangana Ranaut, Esha Gupta, Freida Pinto, Kunal Kapoor, Lisa Ray, Koena Mitra and Raveena Tandon to name a few. While several celebrities have maintained silence on the issue including Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Kalki Koechlin and Shakti Kapoor to name a few. Anushka Sharma is the latest addition to the list of celebrities who have come out in support of the actress.
Anushka Sharma at the success party of her most recent release 'Sui Dhaaga: Made In India' voiced her opinion on the Tanushree Dutta-Nana Patekar row. When asked about her take on the Tanushree Dutta incident, Anushka said, "I think Varun has already made his stand on it and I'll tell you something. Not just as a women, I think even on an individual level your workplace has to be the safest environment you are in after your house. You should not feel threatened or in danger while performing your duty, whatever profession you might be in. You have to feel safer. So yes, it is very frightening to know the details that have come out and let me also add that for Tanushree Dutta to speak up about this is not easy. It take a lot of courage to come out and say these things knowing the tide that you're going to be against when you come out and speak. You know, and that's the reason why a lot of people don't even speak. But the fact that she is doing that. She is having the courage to speak its our duty collectively, the industry, the media, the people or everyone to just respect the woman when she is speaking, to hear her out, and to not get into value judgements, character analysis, and all those other sorts of things that have been happening. I do understand that its a legal matter at the moment and eventually the truth will get out, and that's fine. But if someone is choosing to come out there and put themselves out there the least we can do is hear them out and be respectful. And I do hope as a woman, and I'm not going to say just as a woman, I'm sure would agree. All of us in this platform here, everyone will agree that if this will encourage women to come out and speak about the things that they face..Because its like it doesn't happen and it is not like it doesn't happen everywhere. So I think it will be nice if this sort of environment is created but..atmosphere is created where women feel where women feel safe to come out and speak."
Anushka Sharma who has come out in support of Tanushree Dutta further added, "She is putting herself out there knowing how vulnerable she is. So you cannot get into character analysis. You cannot be posting her pictures even as media. Don't post her pictures and just to taint a certain image towards her. Don't do stuff like that. And a lot of people in the media are also doing that. So let's all collectively be responsible for something like this. Trust me on this if something like this happens, it is the environment that is to be blamed. It is not any particular person. An environment breeds people who do the wrong things. And don't question those things also, "why has it happened so late?" That's also not right. If justice has not been served, it can happen anytime."
Tanushree Dutta had also accused filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri of misbehaviour on the sets of the film 'Chocolate: Deep Dark Secrets'. She alleged that the filmmaker asked her to take her clothes off and dance, in order to give cues to one of the male actors. However, Tanushree reportedly said that Irrfan Khan and Suniel Shetty stepped up for her and reprimanded the director for doing so.
Meanwhile, actress Tanushree Dutta who is currently under police protection after receiving multiple threats has received two legal notices and has her legal team in place to fight what she calls is not a 'news story anymore but a war countless millions are fighting'. Nana Patekar is expected to hold a press conference on October 8.
