The trailer of the much-anticipated political drama 'The Accidental Prime Minister' released on Thursday, December 27 and it has given a stir to a huge controversy. The film is based on the life of the former Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh and traces his journey throughout the time he was in power. The veteran actor recently discussed his upcoming film and the characters in it. He said that the former PM was upset by the situation back then.

In an exclusive interview with Editor-in-Chief of Republic TV, Arnab Goswami, Anupam Kher said, "When I was doing my research, I came to know that he was upset. When this whole Anna Hazare thing was happening in 2012, he was very upset about it. There is a scene in the film where he is hearing people saying about Dr. Manmohan Singh. I am sure it must have pained him, it pains anybody who has a conscience. He might be a weak person but he is not corrupt. He went to the silent zone only after 2009, till then he used to talk a lot."

"And now he is talking too much, in the sense, he is now constantly speaking, it's nice to see him speaking." the actor continued.

The film is based on a book of the same name by Sanjay Baru, a former media advisor to Manmohan Singh, who alleges that Dr. Singh was never fully in control of his cabinet and a significant amount of power was wielded by then Congress president Sonia Gandhi. The film has been recently drawn into controversy as the Congress party raised questions against the film saying that the film portrays facts in a wrong way. However, Anupam Kher replied to the same saying that the film is completely based on the book and the makers have not distorted the script.

The film has been making headlines ever since the first poster was released. Anupam Kher's striking resemblance to Manmohan Singh has become a talking point. Earlier a few snippets and videos of Anupam Kher were doing the rounds, where his mannerisms and postures were also seen to be exactly like the former PM and fans were much impressed by his perfection.
