The Sky is Pink has been in the news as it deals with a real-life incident and is a comeback movie in Bollywood for Priyanka Chopra Jonas post her marriage. Priyanka, in an interview, described Shonali as an incredible person and an amazing filmmaker, who doesn’t let society dictate how she should live her life. Shonali has allegedly also been breaking stereotypes with the kind of content she brings to the screens. Let’s have a look at the previous movies that she has directed.

Amu (2005)

Amu is based on Shonali’s own novel with the same name. It is the story of a girl from an Indian origin who moves to America at the young age of three. At 21, she returns to India where she wants to see the unattractive side of the Delhi. She finds herself getting attached to the place and soon finds out that her family has lied to her, her entire life. The story of a girl finding her identity and encountering a blemished society won many critic choice awards. Amu premiered in the Berlin Film festival and Toronto International Film festival. Amu won the 52nd National Film Award for Best Feature Film in English, in 2004.

Margarita with a Straw (2014)

Margarita with a Straw revolves around the journey of a young girl with cerebral palsy, who moves from India to New York to discover herself. She falls in love, gets her heart broken and moves on to live her own life on her own terms. The movie spoke about the social stigma attached to the LGBTQIA community. The movie was nominated and even won many accolades at various film festivals across the globe. Kalki Koechlin won the 63rd National Film Award under the special jury category for Best Actress for her role in the movie.

The Sky is Pink (2019)

The Sky is Pink is based on the real-life story of a teenager who is suffering from Pulmonary Fibrosis. The teenager becomes a motivational speaker after her diagnosis and narrates the story of her parents in the movie. Shonali Bose said that she was very special to her as the international premiere of the movie took place on the same day as the death anniversary of her son. The cast of the highly acclaimed movie includes Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Farhan Akhtar, Rohit Saraf, and Zaira Wasim. The Sky is Pink is written as well as directed by Shonali Bose. The Sky is Pink premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this year and is set to release on October 11, 2019.
