  • Vijay Krishna Acharya opens up about the originality of the script of 'Thugs Of Hindostan'
  • After the release of the trailer, the film was being compared to the Hollywood film 'Pirates of the Carribean'

The trailer of 'Thugs Of Hindostan' which was released on Thursday, caused the netizens to draw parallels between the film and Johnny Depp's popular franchise, 'Pirates Of The Carribean'. Netizens began to compare Aamir Khan's look with that of Johnny Depp in the popular Hollywood franchise. Reportedly, during the making of the film, directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, there was a buzz that the period drama was based on Philip Meadow Taylor's 1839 novel, 'Confessions Of A Thug'. However, the director rubbished the rumours.

The director broke his silence on the matter while talking to a daily news and said that it is not based on any story. He further said that since the film's title has thugs in it, people have assumed that it is adapted from a book that was written several years ago. Acharya said that there is no truth to it and the script is written by him.

The three and a half minute long trailer revealed that the film is set in the year 1975 during the British era. The film is an intense action drama that traces how a band of pirates rebels against the British Raj. Aamir Khan plays a 'firangi sailor' in the film, who has a care-free personality.

The writer-director revealed that he was most satisfied with Khan's character sketch of Firangi. He said that whenever they have made a period film, it has been reverential. Acharya thought, if they could have an irreverent film in which a character was not noble or righteous, it would be an interesting change.

The film will be released in the IMAX format and is said to be a visual extravaganza. Acharya revealed that given how integral the visual effects were to the narrative, it was imperative that they be up to the mark. The director said that they have made an attempt at something that has never been done before. They faced a lot of challenges, right from the technical department to the logistical aspect.

The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra in pivotal roles. The film produced by Yash Raj Films is slated to release on November 8.
