The film 'Thugs of Hindostan' is based on Philip Meadows Taylor's 1839 novel 'Confessions of a Thug'. Set in a backdrop of British captured India, the film tells the story of a thug (also known as a thuggee) called Ameer Ali, who along with his gang of thugs posed a serious challenge to the British Empire in India during the early 19th century. It is a fictional story set between 1790 and 1805.
Along with Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif, the multi-starter action drama features Amitabh Bachchan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ronit Roy, Satyadev Kancharana and Abdul Quadir Amin. Jackie Shroff was in talks to join the cast of the film but he couldn't manage to do so because of conflicting commitments. This is the first time Bollywood veteran Amitabh Bachchan and the 'PK' star Aamir Khan will share the silver screen. Moreover, the film marks the second collaboration of Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, and Vijay Krishna Acharya after 2013 Blockbuster hit 'Dhoom 3'. Also, this is the second time Fatima Sana Shaikh and Aamir Khan will be sharing the big screen after 2016 sports drama 'Dangal'.
Scripted and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, the film is produced by Aditya Chopra under the banner of Yash Raj Films. With a production budget of Rs. 210 crore 'Thugs of Hindostan' will count as the most expensive Yash Raj Films productions, along with 'Tiger Zinda Hai' that released in 2017. It is all set to hit the theatres this Diwali on November 8, 2018.
