The anticipatory bail plea of Alok Nath has been rejected by a court in Mumbai after he was booked on charges of rape following a complaint by ‘90s producer-director Vinta Nanda.

Dhruti Kapadia, counsel for Nanda, confirmed to a Mumbai-based tabloid that his application, filed through his lawyers, was not granted as her team requested for time from the court to file an intervention application in the case.

The counsel also confirmed that the next hearing in the case has been adjourned to December 20. Anticipatory bail, if granted, would’ve granted Nath immunity from arrest.

A team of lawyers from Delhi had filed an anticipatory bail plea at the Dindoshi sessions court in Mumbai on Friday. Alok Nath’s wife Ashu was reportedly present with the lawyers at the time of their visit to court. However, it is not yet clear where Alok is as Oshiwara police in Mumbai had declared him ‘untraceable’ after their notice to him was returned without being received.

The First Information Report (FIR) under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 376 against Alok Nath was registered on November 21 at the Oshiwara police station.

Following Vinta Nanda’s allegations against Alok Nath, the veteran actor was expelled ‘till further notice’ by the Cine and TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) on November 13. Previously, the producer-director has also approached the National Commission for Women (NCW) in the case. She had also written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking help.

Alia Bhatt’s mother Soni Razdan, Himani Shivpuri were among those who spoke about witnessing his misbehaviour multiple times.
