Vicky Kaushal's 'Uri: The Surgical Strike' is emerging as one of the biggest blockbusters of 2019. The slick action film has been wreaking havoc at the box office and as the film wraps up three weeks in cinema halls, it has created a new record that has put even the biggest hits of 2018 far behind.
According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the Aditya Dhar directorial has become one of the highest grossing films in its third week. Amassing more than Rs 35 crore in this week alone, Uri has now surpassed films like Ranbir Kapoor's 'Sanju' and Ranveer Singh's 'Padmaavat' and 'Simmba'. While 'Sanju' minted Rs 31.62 crore in its third week, Ranveer's film collected Rs 31.75 crore and Rs 20.06 crore respectively.
What is really incredible about these statistics is that the film that is an ode to the Indian Army is actually faring better than the highest grossing film of 2018 at this point of time. At this rate, it looks like the Vicky Kaushal, Yami Gautam and Paresh Rawal starrer will become a landmark film in Hindi cinema. Meanwhile, Uri has already crossed Rs 167 crore at the box office and the rate at which it is still minting money, it is unlikely that it will run out of theatres anytime soon.
Box office success aside, the war film has been also been getting the love and respect of everyone from the common people, to army personnel to prominent politicians.
