Varun Dhawan the Bollywood actor known for his performance in his debut movie Student Of The Year opens up about his father David Dhawan and their relationship

Varun Dhawan is a Bollywood actor who made his first on-screen appearance with the 2014 film Student Of The Year. He is the son of renowned Bollywood director, David Dhawan who is known for his movies like Coolie No. 1, and Hero No.1. The father-son duo has been seen in two Bollywood films, Main Tera Hero and Judwaa 2. Here is what Varun Dhawan has to say about his father, David Dhawan:

"My Dad never planned to launch me in Bollywood"

In an interview, when Varun was asked about how to make it big in tinsel town, he replied that it takes a lot of will power, hard work and sincerity. He also added that ever since their childhood, neither he nor his brother Rohit Dhawan got any preferential treatment from their father. Varun recalled how his father, David Dhawan, was asked to launch their kids in Bollywood, and he denied that too. Thus it was a challenge for Varun as well, he said.

Right from the beginning, Varun said that he had to work very hard. He said that he took acting lessons, and also was an assistant director in My Name Is Khan (2010). The advantages of learning and working on himself helped him, he said. Varun also said that though his filmy connections made it easier for him to meet people, that was the end of the advantages.

Varun said that his father, David Dhawan also had to go through many struggles to make his mark in Bollywood as well. He said that coming from a small town his father had no connections in the industry and had to work very hard to give them a good life. He added that his father, David Dhawan was a gold medallist from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII). David edited for Doordarshan before he got the opportunity to edit Saaransh (1984). Varun added that he made 50 films and has a success rate of 70-80%.

Varun Dhawan's upcoming movies

Varun Dhawan was last seen in the 2019 Bollywood movie Kalank that did not perform as expected at the box-office. He will make his next appearance on-screen in Street Dancer 3D, Coolie No. 1, Shaadi No. 1 Reboot and Shuddhi. The father-son duo will make a return with the upcoming films Shaadi No. 1 Reboot and Coolie No.1 which are remakes of popular movies by the same names. The movies initially starred Govinda, and were directed by David Dhawan and will now feature Varun Dhawan in his shoes, for the reprised versions.
