Vidya Balan says, 'Enough is enough. Tough calls have to be taken' on banning Pakistani artistes in wake of Pulwama terror attack

National award-winning actress Vidya Balan took a stand against continued ties with Pakistan on Friday, while condemning the dastardly Pulwama terror attack. She has backed the decision taken by industry bodies to not release films in Pakistan and on the ban on all Pakistani artistes from working in India.

National award-winning actress Vidya Balan took a stand against continued ties with Pakistan on Friday, while condemning the dastardly Pulwama terror attack. She has backed the decision taken by industry bodies to not release films in Pakistan and on the ban on all Pakistani artistes from working in India.

As per reports, Balan said that though she has always believed that art should be kept away from all boundaries and politics, she thinks it's time to take a stand now because, as she put it, "enough is enough".

Vidya who is currently busy promoting her debut radio show 'Dhun Badal Ke Toh Dekho', said that as an individual she believes that there is no better way to bring people together than the arts, be it music, poetry, dance, theatre, cinema or any other art form. But this time she thinks a break from this practice should be taken and some tough calls need to be made.

Numerous Bollywood stars expressed anger and grief over the attack through social media. Several celebrities including Priyanka Chopra, Ajay Devgn, Shahid Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan, Varun Dhawan, Aamir Khan, Alia Bhatt, Shankar Mahadevan, Rishi Kapoor posted tweets to condemn the attack. Some, including Amitabh Bachchan, Raveena Tandon and Akshay Kumar have extended financial assistance to the martyrs' families.

Singer Daler Mehendi also took to his social media handle a while back and shared a video urging the celebs that besides collecting fund for the jawans, bullet-proof jackets should also be arranged for all the soldiers. He wrote: "I am willing to do anything for a #bulletproofjacket to every Jawan of India. The Film, TV fraternity must stand up for our soldiers. [sic]"

The AICWA issued a statement condemning the attack that killed 40 CRPF personnel in Kashmir's Pulwama. The statement read: "All Indian Cine Workers Association strongly condemns brutal terrorist attack on our soldiers at Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir. Our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. AICWA stands with nation in confronting such terror and inhumanity. Were officially announcing a total ban on Pakistani Actors and Artists working in Film Industry. Still if any organisation insist on working with Pakistani Artists will be banned by AICWA and a strong action will be taken against them. Nation comes first, we stand with our nation."
