At an event on Friday, Akshay while talking about the film, said: "It is sad that though the British celebrate Saragarhi Day, remembering the martyrs of the war, but we Indians do not know much about it. It is sad how an incident like this has got lost in the pages of history."

He further added: "It is hard to imagine how 21 Sikh soldiers stood strong inside a fort, knowing that 10,000 Afghan soldiers were waiting outside to kill them. Knowing that death is inevitable and continuing the fight requires a lot of bravery. That war was a pure example of that. They fought for our country, for our honour. So, I would like to urge all the parents to show the film to their children. Our youngsters should know about our war heroes. This is also an educational film. It is a true incident and based on real characters," the actor concluded.

Akshay Kumar said, “Whenever I used to wear the pagdi, the spine would become straight due to the weight on the head." Parineeti Chopra who has less screen time in the film and plays Kumar's wife, said, “Kesari was that one film where I did not think about silly things like screen-time. When Karan called me to his office and told me the one-liner and also played a romantic number from the movie, I said yes instantly.”

Co-written by Girish Kohli and Anurag Singh, the film has been produced by Johar’s Dharma Productions, Cape of Good Films and Azure Entertainment. 'Kesari' by Anurag Singh is based on the legend of the Battle of Saragarhi of 1897, in which 21 Sikh soldiers of the British Indian Army held their positions against 10,000 Afghani tribesmen. The movie stars Parineeti Chopra, Mir Sarwar and Ashwath Bhatt, among others, and will be released on Holi on March 21.
