Vyjayanthimala Bali has been one of the renowned actresses of the evergreen era. At the tender age of 13, she made her on-screen debut with Tamil film 'Vazhkai' in 1949. Following the success of 'Nagin,' Vyjayanthimala established herself as one of Bollywood's leading actresses while making inroads in successful Tamil and Telugu films. 

Born to a Tamil family, Vyjayanthimala's mother Vasundhara Devi was a leading actress in Tamil cinema back in the 1940s. At the age of seven, Vyjayanthimala was chosen to perform a classical Indian dance for Pope Pius XII while her mother was an audience in 1940 at Vatican City. The actress has kept the flame of dancing alive even at the age of 82. Here's how her fans reacted post watching an enigmatic performance: 

 

Besides films, Vyjayanthimala's main concentration was in Bharatanatyam, a form of Indian classical dance. After quitting movies, Vyjayanthimala continued with her dance career. In addition, she was conferred with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, the highest Indian recognition given to practising artists.
