The trailer of the much-anticipated film ‘Thackeray’, the biopic on late Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray, was unveiled at an event in Mumbai and also on social media.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui has stepped into the shoes of the political leader, while ‘Vivah’ actress Amrita Rao plays the role of his wife Meena Tai Thackeray.

The trailer features Thackeray’s rise from humble beginnings to establish a political party as he felt it was important to get involved with the people to serve the people.

His party’s protests and actions to ensure priority for the locals of Maharashtra made it hard for the politicians who’d call him for discussions. Thackeray, however, is seen saying to a character based on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi that he says ‘Jai Maharashtra’ after ‘Jai Hind’ as the nation comes before the state for him.

When asked by a character based on former Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad about the resumption of cricket ties, Thackeray says how he remembers his six but that wasn't enough for him to forget the martyrs who had laid their lives at the border.

It also captures the various incidents that the party went through during Babri Masjid demolition in 1992 and the subsequent Bombay riots for which the leader was questioned in the court.

Nawazuddin’s strong one-liners in the court where he asserts that it was Ram Mandir at the location and asks the lawyer if it was in Pakistan, says it was his 'foot'' when asked about his 'hand' in the incident and how he only believed in the people's court, stand out.

The actor's energetic speeches like the leader about 'snatching rights like a goon instead of begging' or 'being blessed with the skill to gather lakhs when alone' are intense. He aces the Hindi accent with a hint of Marathi in it. The politician was a well-known artist and painter and one can see brief visuals of it in the trailer as well.

The release of the teaser where one can see Nawazuddin dressed like Thackeray while addressing a gathering, around the same time last year, had made headlines galore. Amitabh Bachchan had launched the teaser.
