The tiff apparently started when on Karan Johar's chat show 'Koffee with Karan', Ranveer revealed that he could have done Shahid's role in 'Kaminey' better than him. And post this statement, Shahid in one of the interviews said that he would have played Alauddin Khilji's character differently. Her further said that he doesn't know if he could have done it better or worse, but he believes that every actor brings something unique to the table.
This year, when Shahid made an appearance on 'Koffee with Karan' with his brother Ishaan Khatter, he said that he isn't friends with Deepika or Ranveer. When Karan asked if there were arguments over screentime to be shared in Padmaavat, Shahid said that it was a big film and everyone wanted to be at the centre of attention. They all felt threatened by each other at some level.
He said: “It’s really a big film and the stakes were very high for everybody. So everybody wanted to have their A-game on. Everybody was doing everything it takes to kind of be in the centre of the limelight. I’m sure everybody felt a bit threatened by each other at some level, it’s natural.”
He also told Karan that since he got married and had kids, he hardly gets any time to socialise and wants to change this habit. During the rapid fire round, Shahid also said that Padmavat could have been more balanced in terms of its screen time.
