Bollywood star Ranveer Singh has given Padmavati and its director Sanjay Leela Bhansali his complete support over the seemingly never-ending controversy.

Speaking to a mass of media-persons and fans at Mumbai's Santa Cruz, Ranveer said the following:

"Like I've said, I'm 200% with the film and its director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Given the time is sensitive, I've been asked to not say anything.

Whatever official communication needs to be made you will recieve from the producers.

Thanks for coming here today. Before I create a ruckus, I should leave."

Padmavati has been embroiled in controversy for months as various Rajput groups have protested alleged 'distortion of history' in the historical drama. The film also stars Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor, but it is the former and Ranveer's roles that have loomed large. At first, there was said to be a romantic dream sequence between Rani Padmavati (Padukone) and Allauddin Khilji (Singh) over which protesting groups cried blasphemy. This caused Sanjay Leela Bhansali to come out and clear the air -- that there was no such sequence. (NOTE: Republic TV has been screened a copy of the film and is able to corroborate the filmmaker's statement)

Unbothered by facts, the protesting groups have continued their crusade against the film, resorting to vandalism, violent threats, blood letters and mock-hangings. On Sunday, the film's production house decided to delay the release of the film from the original December 1 to an unspecified date. Still, the controversy has continued, now with various states' chief ministers also getting involved.
