As one of the most anticipated movies of the year ‘2.0’ is greeted with cheers by hardcore Rajinikanth fans on its release on 29 November, there’s a hiccup for it as well. Pro-Kannada outfits were seen protesting against the movie on the release date in Bengaluru. The members of the outfit shouted slogans and tried to enter a theatre screening the film.
The police were informed, who arrived at the scene to take a stock of the situation. The members, who didn’t stop their chants, were later seen being taken away in police vans.
The outfit is upset with the science fiction action drama hitting numerous theatres in the state. The group is of the opinion that with the massive number of screens allocated for the movie, Kannada films have been ‘neglected’, thus affecting the Kannada movie industry.
‘2.0’ is said to be the biggest release for an Indian film, with as many as 10,000 theatres screening the movie across the globe. It is also reportedly the most expensive film in Indian cinema history, with a budget of more than Rs 500 crore.
The science fiction action drama directed by Shankar stars Rajinikanth in a double role, of a scientist and a robot, and Akshay Kumar, reportedly plays a scientist-turned-’crow man.’ The story of the movie revolves around the Akshay’s powerful character who has superpowers to pull mobile phones, leading to chaos in the city before Rajinikanth’s team ‘reboots’ the robot Chitti to thwart the menace.
The movie also stars Amy Jackson, also enacting the role of a droid. ‘2.0’ has been produced by Lyca Productions and presented by Karan Johar.
