This is not the first time Mamata and Shah Rukh Khan are meeting. The two share a healthy bond since SRK bought Kolkata's IPL team, along with Juhi Chawla. Last year, West Bengal Chief Minister took to her Twitter handle to wish the actor a very happy birthday. She wrote: "Very happy birthday to you Shah Rukh. Stay healthy and happy, my charming brother. Proud to have you as Brand Ambassador of #Bangla. Keep entertaining us with your films and achieve all the success in life. We will meet soon at the Kolkata International Film Festival #KIFF2018".

In 2017, a video went viral where Shah Rukh Khan was seen touching Banerjee's feet. The state chief minister dropped the actor at the airport in her Santro car and got out of the car first to open the door for him.
