Spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's Art of Living has taken up an initiative to eradicate drug abuse from the country. Several Indian celebrities including actor Sanjay Dutt, comedian Kapil Sharma, and vocalist Badshah joined hands with Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to fight against drug addiction.
Recently, the celebrities along with Sri Sri graced the stage of an event of the 'Drug Free India' campaign in Chandigarh where they took the pledge to uproot drug addiction from the country. As per reports, the live event on webcast witnessed over 60,000 youth from different colleges across India. Moreover, there were over one crore students from 7000 colleges across the country came forward and supported the noble cause making it successful. Reportedly, over a 1000 students were on the ground during the launch of the campaign.
Media reports suggest that the idea behind the initiative dates back to 2016 when Sanjay Dutt, who once fell prey to substance abuse, along with some of his friends approached Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to guide them along the way.
Sanjay Dutt announced his collaboration with the project a couple of days back. Sharing a picture of himself featured in the poster of the campaign on Twitter, he wrote, "I always wanted to do something to uproot drug addiction from India. The #DrugFreeIndia campaign is a step towards that! Because of my personal experiences, it's a cause very close to my heart & I want to help the youth of our country. Thank you @SriSri guruji for your support"

The actor previously in several instances opened up about his struggles coming out of the addiction. He said that it is easy to get sucked into drug abuse, but very difficult to get out of it. Even his biopic 'Sanju', starring Ranbir Kapoor in the titular role, narrated his struggles to do away with drug addiction.
Several other Bollywood stars including Katrina Kaif, Aamir Khan, Tiger Shroff, Varun Dhawan, Vicky Kaushal, Ayushmann Khurrana, Arjun Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha, Parineeti Chopra, Shilpa Shetty, Karan Johar, Kriti Sanon, Ekta Kapoor, and Ritesh Sidhwani have also come forward to support the cause. Reportedly, film producer Mahaveer Jain was instrumental to bring all these people together for this initiative. Moreover, media reports suggests that Prime Minister Narendra Modi also has lent his full support to the campaign.
