To bring to life one of the bravest battles fought is no mean feat and the team of Akshay Kumar ‘Kesari’ faced a challenging time. The actor recently opened up about the story of the film, the challenges shooting the action sequences and why he enjoyed them.
In a making video of the movie, Akshay says, “’Kesari’ is based on this epic battle of Saragarhi, which was one of the most heroic battles seen in history. It is the story of the courage of 21 Sikh soldiers who fought against 10,000 invaders to defend their honour. The film also touches upon the never-give-up attitude the Sikh has.”
Opening on the action of the movie, the ‘Khiladi’ said, “There are two major sequences in the film, one was in Spiti, the other one was in Wai. Spit was an extremely beautiful place, but it has its own set of challenges. The high-altitude, low oxygen action choreography was quite difficult.
"Also to recreate a battle that took place in 1897, we had to learn the traditional battle style then... Whole idea to take the gun, shoot one shot, then load one more bullet, so it’s not like six rounds have been pulled.”
“The next one was in Wai in Mumbai. Doing action scenes in that location is just the opposite, with extreme heat, especially with my heavy turban was quite challenging.”
However, despite the challenging conditions, Akshay exulted, “I’ve had one of the best time doing action sequences for ‘Kesari’, because they were so raw. It was completely out of this world. The very premise of the film is something that swells my chest with pride.”
