From 'The Accidental Prime Minister' to 'Thackrey' to 'PM Narendra Modi', 2019 has been a year of Interesting political biopics. Now joining the list is 'The Tashkent Files', the film that explores the mysterious death of Dr. Lal Bahadur Shastri, the second Prime Minister of India. On Monday, March 25, makers of the much-anticipated venture unveiled the first trailer of the film featuring an interesting star cast including Mithun Chakraborty, Naseeruddin Shah, Shweta Basu, Pankaj Tripathi, Vinay Pathak, Mandira Bedi, Pallavi Joshi, Ankur Rathee and Prakash Belawadi.
The intense and gripping trailer raises several questions on the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of former Prime Minister. While the beginning of the trailer a panel including the lead actors speculates the death of Shastri as a planned murder, it ends evoking the public's right to know the truth behind the untold story. The film is directed by Vivek Agnihotri who has done movies like 'Chocolate', 'Buddha in a Traffic Jam' etc.
Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter and made the announcement of the release of the trailer. Sharing the over two and a half minute video on Twitter, he wrote, "Trailer of #TheTashkentFiles... Directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri... 12 April 2019 release... #TheTashkentFilesTrailer"

As per media reports, 'The Tashkent Files' explores the real reason behind the mysterious death of the Indian freedom fighter and the second Prime Minister in Tashkent. With almost no official documents available in the records, director Vivek and his team reportedly researched over the last 3 years and has framed the project by collecting information in bits and pieces from the public. The film is now all set to hit the theaters on April 12, 2019.
Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty would be seen playing the role of Shyam Sundar Tripathi, the leader of the Opposition, in the thriller. Naseeruddin Shah is playing the role Minister of Home Affairs PKR Natrajan. Shweta Basu Prasad as a rookie journalist Raagini Phule. Pallavi Joshi is Aiysha Ali Shah, an author and historian and Pankaj Tripathi is Gangaram Jha, a scientist. Rajesh Sharma as Omkar Kashyap, Director, National Archives and Prakash Belawadi as GKS Ananthasuresh, Ex RAW Chief complete the lead cast.
