The trailer of 'The Accidental Prime Minister' dropped on December 27 and has created quite a stir since. Anupam Kher has played his role of Dr Manmohan Singh to perfection while Akshaye Khanna played Sanjaya Baru, the chief media advisor to the former Prime Minister and political commentator. In the riveting trailer, he plays a pivotal role and does some pretty interesting things with his limited screen time.
In the trailer, his character of Sanjaya Baru can be seen looking into the screen and talking directly to the audience multiple times. These fourth wall breaking moments, as they are called really makes the narrative that much more interesting. It also points out to the interesting fact that he is the narrator of this tale. Overall, this switch up of perspectives will make for a more immersive experience for the audiences when the film finally hits the screens on January 11, 2019.
Meanwhile, coming to the trailer, it shows a constant struggle of power dynamics between Dr Singh and the then Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi. The famed economist turned Prime Minister can be then seen trying to grasp the situation at hand and do his best to fulfill the duties of his office. He is, of course, aided by Khanna's Sanjaya Baru who explains to him what is going and how he can turn things in his favour. Being the one inside person who saw the whole first five years of the UPA tenure, one can expect some really deep insights into the mind of the leader who was alleged to not have any autonomy to act.
