Ever since the trailer of 'The Accidental Prime Minister' has dropped, it has given rise to a whirlwind controversy. The film is essentially based on a book of the same name by Sanjaya Baru, a former media advisor to Manmohan Singh, who alleges that Dr Singh was never fully in control of his cabinet and a significant amount of power was wielded by then Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
In an exclusive interview with the Editor-in-chief of Republic TV, actor Anupam Kher was asked to comment about Congress party claiming that 'he is a BJP man'. Responding to the statement, Kher said "Who has played the Prime Minister of the country, who just happened to be the candidate of the Congress party. They are not able to understand how this happened, and they cannot question why the makers have shown Dr Singh as a nice person? because the five dialogues he has in the trailer, he is speaking about the country.
On being asked if he will join the BJp, the veteran actor refused and said "No, because I am happy by joining a bigger party, that is India''
Besides, Anupam Kher, the film also stars Suzanne Bernert as Sonia Gandhi, Ahana Kumra as Priyanka Gandhi and Arjun Mathur as Rahul Gandhi. The movie is helmed by debutant director Vijay Ratnakar Gutte and is scheduled to release in January 2019.
The film is based on the book which was penned by political commentator Sanjaya Baru, which offers a behind-the-scenes look at the UPA administration. The film has been directed by Vijay Gutte with Hansal Mehta as the creative producer. It features Anupam Kher as Manmohan Singh, German actor Suzanne Bernert as former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Ahana Kumra as Priyanka Gandhi, Arjun Mathur as Rahul Gandhi and Akshaye Khanna in the role of Sanjaya Baru.
