Veteran Bollywood director Pahlaj Nihalani has been sacked and replaced by lyricist Prasoon Joshi as the chief of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) which is also known as the Censor Board. Less than a day after being sacked, Nihalani spoke to Republic TV's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami over the controversy over the word intercourse. The entire controversy started with the usage of the word 'Intercourse' in the trailer of the Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer 'Jab Harry Met Sejal'. Nihalani had expressed his disappointment over the use of the word by saying that the Indian audience is not so progressive enough as yet to take these kinds of scenes in a positive manner.

Over the course of the conversation, a number of issues that had resulted in multiple controversies during Nihalani's reign came to the fore, not least, the word, which Nihalani had taken issue with while certifying. In the video above, we find out just how much of a problem the former Censor chief has with the word 'intercourse'.

Before the 'Jab Harry met Sejal' controversy, Nihalani has also got involved in many such controversies. In 2016, the former chief of the censor board sent a legal notice to the people associated with the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) and the reason was that during a segment at the IIFA that year, some inappropriate words were used against him. Some of the hit movies like 'Udta Punjab', 'Lipstick Under My Burkha', and 'Aligarh' had to face some serious problems during its release due to Nihalani. Wherever there were slang words or controversial scenes shown in the movies, Nihalani always has expressed his objection towards them. During the widespread protests by the students of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune in 2015, over the appointment of actor Gajendra Chauhan as the chief of the institution, Nihalani strongly supported the latter and felt that the students, who were protesting, are going against the nation. There have been several posts on social media too regarding the people expressing their views on the former chief of the censor board.
